Gutters and downspouts in Havertown
On a tree-lined street, gutters fill up fast every fall. When they overflow, water ends up against stone foundations and in basements. We size, pitch and place gutters so the water goes where it should.

Gutters on older Havertown homes
Behind an old gutter there's often a fascia board that's been wet for years. On some 1920s houses the gutter is built into the roof edge itself (a box or built-in gutter) rather than hung on the front.

Signs your gutters need attention
- Water sheeting over the front edge in a normal rain, even when the gutters are clean
- Sagging runs or spikes pulling out of the fascia
- Peeling paint, rot or stains on the fascia board behind the gutter
- Washed-out mulch or soil below the gutter line
- A damp basement wall near a downspout
Sizing and downspouts
Size. Bigger roof slopes and steeper pitches send more water to one gutter. Moving from a 5-inch to a 6-inch K-style gutter, or adding a downspout, often fixes overflow that cleaning never did.
Pitch. Gutters need a slight, steady fall toward each outlet. Too flat and water sits; too steep and it looks crooked from the street.
Discharge. A downspout that dumps at the foundation just moves the problem. Extensions or a splash block should carry water away from the house.
What do new gutters cost?
Seamless aluminum gutters typically run about $7 to $13 per linear foot installed. A two-story run adds about $1 to $3 per foot, taking down old gutters about $1 to $2 per foot, downspouts about $5 to $6 per foot, and gutter guards about $15 to $45 per foot (HomeGuide and other published guides).

Gutter guards under mature trees
Guards cut down on cleaning; they don't end it. Fine debris like seed pods and pine needles still collects, and some guard styles overflow in heavy downpours. If big trees overhang your roof, guards can be worth it. If not, a properly sized gutter and a yearly cleaning may be all you need.
Big trees also bring limbs. After the July 11, 2026 microburst that the National Weather Service said reached into Havertown, uprooted trees were widely reported. If a limb has bent a gutter or pulled it off the fascia, see storm damage.

Twin gutter runs
On a twin, the front gutter often runs continuously across both halves. We can replace your half and finish it with an end cap or a joint at the property line, or quote both halves if you and your neighbor want them done together.
Replacing gutters with a new roof
Should I replace my gutters when I replace my roof? Often, yes. The drip edge that Haverford Township's roof addendum asks about at every eave sits behind the gutter, and a tear-off is the easiest time to fix rotted fascia. If your gutters are sound and properly pitched, they can be removed and rehung. If they are dented, leaking at seams or undersized, replacing them alongside the roof saves a second setup. See roof replacement.
